Spellbinders Seahorse Floral - Watercoloring with Hot Foil

Writer's picture: Kelsey Thomas Kelsey Thomas

Hello!

Today I am sharing this fun card I made using the Seahorse Floral hot foil plate from Spellbinders.

I started off by cutting a piece of Hero Arts watercolor paper down to 4" x 5.25" in size. I then turned on my Spellbinders Glimmer Machine to let it heat up. When the machine was ready, I placed the seahorse floral hot foil plate on the platform and pressed the timer button. I cut a piece of silver glimmer foil down to size and placed it over the plate when the timer went off. I then placed the watercolor over top of it, added the shims, and ran it through my Big Shot Machine.

After I peeled the foil off the panel, I used Distress Watercolor Pencils (sets 1, 2, and 3) to water color the image. I used a number 2 round brush.

Specific colors:

  • Seahorse and flower centers: Wild Honey and Fossilized Amber

  • Shells: Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo

  • Grass and small leaves: Peacock Feathers and Salvaged Patina

  • Big leaves: Rustic Wilderness and Mermaid Lagoon

  • Flowers: Picked Raspberry and Kitsch Flamingo

I thought it worked really well with foiling on the watercolor paper and then doing a watercolor technique. The foil came out perfectly.

After the panel dried, I glued it to a teal A2 card base using Art Glitter Glue.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed the card and are inspired to create. I also wanted to mention that Spellbinders has a ton of items in their clearance section, including the Seahorse Floral set. They are also having a Sweetheart Sale that ends on the 16th.

Happy crafting!

Kelsey
