Christmas in July #21 - Kat Scrappiness Merry Critters

Hello!

I am back for day 21 of my personal #christmasinjuly2025 cardmaking challenge. I used products from Kat Scrappiness to make my card today.

I started by die cutting a piece of Bee Inspired watercolor paper using the Kat Scrappiness Stitched Fancy Scalloped Rectangle dies using my Sizzix Big Shot and magic mat. I also die cut a rectangle from white Neenah cardstock. For the watercolor paper, I wanted to make a pretty blue sky. I smooshed Salty Ocean, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks directly onto my Tim Holtz glass media mat and spritzed it with a water using a mini mister. I then dipped my paper into the ink to add some color for they sky. The colors blended a bit too much, so after I let it dry a little, I added more Salty Ocean to the glass mat and spritzed it. I then dipped portions of it into the ink and used a paint brush to pick up ink to add some speckles for some variation and texture. I set the panel aside to dry to continue to work on the rest of the card.

I stamped three trees and all of the cute critters from the Kat Scrappiness Merry Critters stamp set onto scraps of white cardstock using an acrylic block and Honey Bee Stamps Intense Black Ink. I colored the images using Prismacolor pencils. Specific colors:

  • Trees: Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, Grass Green, Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber

  • Deer: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, Light Umber, Beige, Eggshell, Cream, Black, Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, and Grass Green

  • Owl: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, Light Umber, Beige, Eggshell, Cream, Orange, Yellowed Orange, Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, and Carmine Red

  • Rabbit: 70% Warm Grey, 50% Warm Grey, 30% Warm Grey, 20% Warm Grey, 10% Warm Grey, Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, Grass Green, and Black

  • Fox: Pumpkin Orange, Mineral Orange, Yellow Ochre, Beige, Eggshell, Cream, Black, Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, Grass Green, 20% Cool Grey, 10% Cool Grey, and White

  • Bird: 20% Cool Grey, 10% Cool Grey, White, Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, Orange, Cerulean Blue, True Blue, Non-Photo Blue, and Black

I fussy cut around all of the critters with my scissors.

To create snow hills for my scene, I took the white rectangle panel that I die cut previously and used my scissors to cut out two curved pieces. I took the front hill and added some Milled Lavender Distress Ink to the edge with a mini blending brush to make it stand out from the back hill. I glued both to my watercolor panel using Art Glitter Glue, making sure to line up the scalloped edge for a seamless look.

I then added my trees and critters to the scene, tucking the trees behind the hills.

To finish the card, I placed my panel in my MISTI and used the Honey Bee Stamps Intense Black Ink to stamp the "Merry Christmas" sentiment from the stamp set up in the top right corner.

I glued the whole panel to a white A2 card base.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed the card and are inspired to create.
