Hello friends!
I'm participating the in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Home Decor. I decided this was the perfect time to try my hand at some mixed media art. I have been watching videos on YouTube for mixed media canvases, and have been dying to try them. My project isn't a canvas, but it is along the same lines. :)
I absolutely LOVE how this turned out, and I had loads of fun making it!
I started with a smallish piece of thick cardboard as my base and used some Distress Paint in Broken China to make a quick wash of blue color for the background. After it dried, I then use some homemade Modge Podge to add some blue tissue paper to the bottom half for some water texture. For some fun dimension, I added some blue sprinkles embellishments and blue glitter. I created some sand at the bottom with more Modge Podge and some actual sand.
After that layer dried, I used a My Favorite Things Ray of Light stencil and some Hero Arts Sea Salt Reactive Ink to make some light rays at the top of the piece. I used a sponge to apply the ink, and didn't do much, just a touch to look like light filtering down. :)
I next took an Altenew Tiny Bubbles stencil and some blue glitter paste to add some random bubbles across the background.
While that was drying, I stamped out the two sharks, the bouquet of fish, and the dead fish gift from the Studio Katia Jawsome stamp set and colored those in with Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers. I fussy cut them out and glued them to the background.
On two white cardstock strips, I stamped the sentiments "I love you" and "jaws the two of us" using black ink. I used the WeRMemory Keepers Washi Chomper tool to create the flagged end on the "I love you" strip. I love this tool. It is definitely one of the best tools I've gotten. I accented the strip with a piece of black and white glittery patterned paper.
To finish it off, I used some various sequins and gemstones for some lovely sparkle and shine. :)
That's it! I hope you enjoyed seeing my first mixed media project. I am definitely going to be making more. This one is going on my wall, but I plan on making some to add to my Etsy. :)
